Maryland high school girls’ teams traveled to North Carolina to begin their National League campaigns this past weekend.
15U Girls
The 2019 USYS NCS Semi-finalists, Pipeline SC Pre-Academy, started the weekend brightly with two wins, but then dropped the next two games. Payton Schenning and Laci Bell were instrumental for Pipeline in attack with 3 goals and 2 goals respectively.
Baltimore Celtic 2005 Girls currently sit 7th place in the Black Division with 4 points. Sophie Thibeault leads the team offensively with 2 goals; Sydney Holmes, Emily Hoyt, and Ella Shannon were all on the scoresheet as well.
MSI Academy White earned 4 points from their first four games. Sadie Wilkinson performed impressively scoring 3 goals, including a brace in a convincing 4-0 win against Snohomish United 05 Black (WA).
16U Girls
Pipeline Pre-Academy sit in 6th place in the Blue Division with 4 points. Carsyn Hyman and Megann Kalthof scored the two goals for Pipeline.
Baltimore Union started off well with a 1-0 win in their first game, but subsequently lost their next 3 games. Brooke Vanschoorisse and Amani Green scored Baltimore Union’s two goals.
18U Girls
2019 USYS NCS Finalists, Pipeline 02 Pre-Academy went 2-1-1 and sit in 3rd place in the Red Division. They started off the weekend with a 4-0 loss, but then went unbeaten in their next three games. Bailey DeSmit scored 4 goals on the weekend and is third on the scoring charts.
Coppermine SC (HFC United) went unbeaten (3-0-1) and only sit two points off the top spot in the White Division. Emma Ryan and Ryan Parncutt have been standouts in attack with two goals apiece. Coppermine have an important final weekend, when they face off with division leaders North Shore United 2002 Blue (WI).
19U Girls
FC Frederick 01 didn’t get off to last year's flying start as they finished the weekend with two wins and two losses. Annabel Anderson is among the age group’s top goal scorers with 3 goals. Despite dropping the first two games, they had two good wins on Saturday and Sunday, which will give them confidence heading into January.
2019 USYS NCS Champions, Coppermine SC Premier 01, had an uncharacteristic start in their return to USYS play with their new-look squad. They finished the weekend with 3 ties and a loss.
The second National League weekend is January 10-12, 2020, so hopefully every team can regroup over the holidays and put in three strong performances!
