Laurie Lane
After retiring from a classical music career as a soprano soloist, Laurie Lane decided to focus on her children and get involved with the sport they loved, as a soccer administrator. Combining her experience as a law firm administrator and a team manager, she began her soccer career at Montgomery Soccer Inc., where she assisted in the day-to-day operations of one of the largest soccer clubs in the country.
Lane along with her husband founded Red Raider Softball, the largest fast pitch softball organization in Maryland and serves as a Board Member Emeritus. She has also served as a PTA President and Executive Committee for Clarksburg High School Booster Club. She also produced the Montgomery County Public Schools original program, Quizmaster Challenge.
Laurie became involved with youth soccer through her children’s love of the game. Starting at the local rec level and quickly learned to navigate the complicated landscape of youth soccer through her experiences with being a volunteer team manager. Motivated to serve, and always “looking for a cause,” Lane moved to Potomac Soccer Association in 2008 and served on the Board of Directors taking an active role with the USSF Development Academy, Washington Area Girls Soccer League, National Capital Soccer League, US Club Soccer as well as the top-rated Boy’s College Showcase, Potomac Memorial Tournament, which attracts hundreds of teams from all over the country and abroad. Lane officially took over operations of the club in 2013 and then as the Executive Director in 2015. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Maryland State Youth Association as a Member-at-Large. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Women and Girls in Soccer (“WAGS”). She has traveled with youth teams to Scotland, Italy and England and is passionate about educating young players about embracing cultural diversity through soccer. She enjoys assisting the MSYSA staff and has served on the Employment Committee, President’s Cup Committee and has been a representative at the President’s Cup Regional event including this past June, as well as the US Youth National’s Event on two separate occasions. She served as a Maryland Delegate at the US Soccer Annual General Meeting in 2017. In the summer of 2019 she traveled to France as one of 18 women, who won scholarships through WAGS, to travel to France in a first-of-its-kind coaching education trip in connection with the Women’s World Cup which was a project she championed.
She sings soprano with the National Philharmonic Chorale at Strathmore Music Center and serves as the Chorale Personnel Manager. She recently was asked to join the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and has participated in “Off-the-Grid” virtual concerts during the pandemic which have been aired locally and nationally.
Lane is an avid supporter of local professional sports teams, especially, the Washington Spirit and DC United where she enjoys singing the National Anthem for games.
